Heanor Gate Science College join the eco ties campaign!
Heanor Gate Science college are one of many secondary schools to join us by jumping on the eco ties band wagon. This school alone ordered 500 recycled ties saving a massive 1000 plastic bottles from landfill. They have a cool certificate to prove it! Showing off their brand new ties’ and doing their bit for the environment are year 7 students.
For every 2 plastic bottles recycled we can make 1 tie. How many ties would your school need? What amount of plastic bottles could you save by switching to recycled ties?
Recycled ties – where did it all begin?
Eco ties is our exciting and most recent venture. With the amount of plastic used and mass waste of plastic headlining the news and featuring on TV programmes, we took to our drawing board to see what Keltic could do to help this plastic phenomenon. An obvious answer being to ‘recycle more’, but we wanted to go further. How could plastic bottles be re-used? We could crush them down and turn them into yarn, yarn to make ties – recycled ties – eco ties! With eco ties only being launched 9 months ago back in September 2017 we have received a fantastic response from primary, secondary and academy schools across the UK.
Why go green?
It’s no secret that plastic waste is on the up, as a result of the mass production of plastic, Greenpeace UK have estimated 12.7 million tones of plastic end up in our oceans each year. Including all plastics – from plastic bottles to bags to tiny plastic micro beads, that is an estimate of 1 truck load per minute.
World Environment Day – 5th June 2018!
Take part in world environment day on 5th June. We would love to hear what your school is doing to take part. This years theme is #beattheplastic, how are you beating the plastic? Have you swapped your ties to recycled ties yet? All our staff here at Keltic Ties are gearing up for a ‘no lunch in plastics day’.
Your first step to encourage recycling in your school could be downloading your very own school bin poster and eco poster. Display them around school classrooms/corridors or on the side of school recycle bins.
We are very proud to be the official supplier of recycled ties to Heanor gate and thank them for their time in taking photos. We shall look forward to many more.
