Eco Ties are school ties made with recycled polyester yarn. Each Eco Tie saves an average of two plastic bottles from entering our oceans and landfills. The standard way of making school ties is with non-recycled polyester yarn, which comes from crude oil. Eco Ties are made on solar-powered looms in our Lancashire mill, take just 3-4 weeks. Because of our price match promise you can move to Eco Ties for the same price or less than what you pay for your current non-recycled ties.
Not only do Eco Ties reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, but they are also much more resource-efficient. Eco Ties, use 94% less water, 60% less energy, and emit 32% less CO2 than the production of non-recycled yarn. Your school ties will be handmade in England offering superior quality compared to most competitors who make them in China.
Our family-run mill, now in its fourth generation of weavers, takes just 3-4 weeks to produce your school uniform ties, less than half the time it takes in China. Not only are we passionate about quality, but we also support UK jobs.
School Visits
We want to spread the word about the benefits of recycling, carbon footprint reduction and reliance on plastics and fossil fuels.
We are very happy to talk with pupils about how their ties are made from recycled plastic bottles, and the positive difference they’re making by wearing them.
We’re also very passionate about British manufacturing and are happy to arrange a tour of our factory for your pupils
Academy Ties
Our carbon footprint is further reduced by driving your ties directly from our UK mill to your school, with no middlemen, and no air transport required from offshore.
As one of the largest school tie manufacturers in the UK, we are experts in all aspects of school tie design, be it Infant, Primary, Secondary, Academies and others. Our team of artists can create free visuals of various designs and can send you a free school tie sample to show you our quality.

What type of school ties do you need?
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Keltic’s school ties “Eco Ties,” and why is that beneficial for schools?
Keltic’s school ties are branded as Eco Ties because they are made from recycled polyester yarn (sourced from plastic bottles) instead of the usual oil-based polyester. This is beneficial for schools for a few reasons: (1) It teaches and exemplifies environmental responsibility – each tie saves about two plastic bottles from landfill, which is a great statistic to share with students. (2) The manufacturing uses much less water and energy than standard methods, reducing the school uniform’s carbon footprint. (3) Despite being eco-friendly, the ties are high quality, durable, and look smart, so there’s no compromise for the sake of sustainability.
Our school is concerned about cost – are recycled ties more expensive?
No, they don’t have to be. Keltic has a Price Match Promise for their recycled ties. They guarantee that moving to Eco Ties will cost the same as (or less than) your current non-recycled ties. In practice, schools often find the pricing comparable to regular ties. So you get the environmental benefit at no extra cost. In some cases, thanks to Keltic’s competitive pricing, schools have even saved money switching to Keltic. The price match ensures budget is not a barrier to adopting sustainable school ties.
How quickly can Keltic deliver a large order of school ties?
Very quickly – they typically produce and deliver school ties in 3–4 weeks once the design is confirmed. Keltic’s UK-based mill is efficient, meaning even large orders (hundreds or thousands of ties) for a school can be turned around in under a month. This is particularly useful if you’re approaching a new school year or have rebranded and need ties fast. It’s always a good idea to give as much lead time as possible, especially for very large quantities, but Keltic’s standard timeline is about half the time of many overseas suppliers.
We need different tie styles for different ages (e.g., elastic ties for younger kids) – can Keltic provide that?
Yes. Keltic can supply infant/primary ties with elastic or Velcro fastenings and standard or clip-on ties for older students. For primary schools, they often produce shorter elasticated ties that young children can easily wear without risking injury or needing to tie a knot. Velcro breakaway ties are another popular safety option for little ones. As students move into secondary school, Keltic can shift to full-length ties (either self-tie or clip-on as per the school’s policy). They can even split an order – for example, 200 elastic ties for Key Stage 1, and 300 regular ties for Key Stage 2 – ensuring each age group has an appropriate fastening and length.
Can we customize the tie design with our school logo or unique stripe pattern?
Absolutely. Keltic’s school ties are fully bespoke. They can weave in your school logo, crest, or initials into the fabric if you wish. Many schools opt for stripe patterns in their school colors – Keltic will match those colors exactly (even if you have a very specific shade from your school’s branding). If your logo is complex, they might simplify it slightly for weaving, but it will be recognizable and neatly integrated. You also have choices on design: classic diagonal stripes, single or double thin stripes, crests repeated, etc. Keltic’s designers will advise on what works best for clarity and aesthetics on a tie.
Are Keltic’s school ties higher quality than our current supplier’s ties?
In most cases, yes, schools notice an upgrade in quality. Keltic’s ties are handmade in England with careful quality control. The fabric tends to be a tight weave giving a nice weight and feel (no limp or shiny cheap-feeling ties). Because they’re made domestically, the stitching and finishing (like the lining and tipping of the tie) are excellent – they’re built to survive daily school wear and tear. Many competitors make ties overseas more cheaply, which can result in inconsistencies. Keltic, by contrast, has a fourth-generation weaving mill; they bring decades of craftsmanship, which translates to a robust tie that holds its shape and knot nicely. So you can expect that the ties will last the entire school year (and beyond) looking smart, which parents and school uniform shops certainly appreciate.
We want to educate students about sustainability. How can the ties play a part in that?
Keltic goes beyond just supplying ties – they are keen on the educational aspect too. When your school gets Eco Ties, Keltic can provide information on exactly how much environmental impact you’re saving (for example, how many plastic bottles were recycled for your order). They even issue a certificate stating how many bottles the school’s switch to Eco Ties has saved, which you can display. Additionally, Keltic has offered to talk with pupils about recycling and sustainability[2]. They can arrange for a representative to either visit the school or provide materials explaining how ties are made from plastic bottles and why that matters. Some schools take up their offer to do a short presentation or assembly – it ties the uniform change into a learning moment about environmental responsibility.
Can Keltic accommodate large orders across multiple school divisions (primary, secondary, etc.)?
Yes. Keltic is used to working with academy trusts and school groups. If your order spans primary school ties, secondary school ties, sixth form/college ties (each perhaps with different colors or designs), they can manage it seamlessly. They will produce each variation according to specifications – for example, primary ties in one color scheme, secondary in another with maybe a thicker stripe for distinction, and sixth form ties maybe with a special crest or color to set them apart. Despite multiple designs, Keltic can coordinate production such that everything arrives together and correctly sorted. You can consolidate your uniform ordering by dealing with this single supplier for all your tie needs. Many large schools and academies appreciate that simplicity.
How does Keltic ensure the safety of school ties (e.g., to prevent choking hazards)?
Keltic takes safety seriously, especially for younger children. They recommend and provide clip-on or breakaway (Velcro/elastic) ties for primary levels. These ties will come off under pressure, eliminating choking risks during play or if pulled. For secondary students where self-tie is common, Keltic can still supply clip-ons for those schools that prefer them (some secondary schools now also opt for clip-on ties to maintain a neat look and improve safety). The materials used are non-toxic and meet all textile safety standards. Additionally, by making the ties in the UK, Keltic adheres to British safety and quality regulations throughout production. They can guide your school on choosing the safest tie option per age group, combining that with your uniform policy needs.
