You are here: Home1 / Blog2 / FAQs3 / Care Instructions For Your Custom Accessory

When enquiring about orders, we get a lot of you asking how best to care for your product and which option of silk or polyester will be easiest to care for. To make it easy for you, we’ve listed these below. Check out other frequently asked questions.

Polyester

Polyester is a great fabric for everyday wear (take a look at our previous post for weave properties). It is robust and will not lose its shape over time, meaning it can stand up to some gentle cleaning. If you happen to spill something down your tie for example, sponging with a damp, clean cloth will not harm your tie. We do not recommend you put your adult polyester accessory in the washing machine however, as this can affect the stitching and durability of your product.

Silk

Silk is a beautiful quality fabric but you must keep in mind that it is very delicate and is generally not meant for traditional cleaning methods. Putting your silk item in the washing machine or in to water in general is a definite no go as the fibres will shrink and twist leaving you with a distorted tie! Silk does not get on well with water, so it’s best to blot any stains with a dry tissue before they dry. If you happen to mark it with something greasy, sprinkle a little talcum powder or corn starch over the area and leave it to absorb what it can before brushing it off.

All of our custom products come with a small care label sewn in, just like the one shown below on a silk tie.

Silk care label

As you can see this carries the following labels:

– Do not wash
– Do not bleach
– Cool Iron
– Can be professionally dry cleaned

This is quite typical of our custom products; they can be professionally dry cleaned and ironed on a very cool setting. For ironing we would advise putting a cloth or towel over the top to avoid damaging the fibres.

Without going in to too much detail we hope this gives you a good overview of how to care for your custom product and helps you decide which option would be better for you.
