X-B Golf Society
I and the other members of the X-B Golf Society committee were delighted with the ties which you supplied to us recently, and they had their first outing when we recently visited Old Thorns Golf and Country Club in Liphook.
Whenever we have a society outing to many different Golf Courses we always finish the day with an evening meal, and it is an unwritten law that members always wear their Society tie for the meal.
Many towns and areas have Golf Clubs to which people locally can join. Golf was founded in Scotland and the most famous club is St Andrews (they will be playing the British Open there next year in July) which is in effect the Headquarters of Golf and they make the rules which anyone playing in a completion at any golf club worldwide has to adhere to. Golf was a very elite sport in the 50’s and 60’s when only the really wealthy could afford to join a golf club, and at some clubs you had to be sponsored by a member and go for an interview to get accepted.
Things are much different now and most clubs are actually crying out for members to keep them solvent. The recent recessions and the huge mortgages which most younger people have to service leaves very little for things such as golf fees .Golf Societies are groups of people who may be members of a golf club already, may be a group who work together, or may be a group from a pub who get together to go and play different courses in their vicinity, Most clubs welcome societies and require a minimum of 12 players to come and play. They usually have a meal afterwards, so you can see the Golf Clubs make a bit of money and the society members get to play courses they would not normally be able to play for a reasonable cost.
