Why our Eco Club Ties are such a winner with sports clubs
With so much emphasis now being placed on environmental green issues and eco-friendly products, Keltic Ties took the initiative last year to revolutionise the way our ties are manufactured.
Our solar-powered mill in Lancashire is now in its fourth generation of weavers. Previously we made ties from polyester yarn that comes from crude oil, which is what most tie manufacturers still use. Last year we made the exciting change to yarn made from recycled plastic bottles, and Eco Ties were born!
By recycling plastic we are now spinning a better quality yarn and this is resonating positively with globally aware sports clubs like the Rugeley Rugby Club in the Midlands Division and the Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club. We like to think that both of these forward-thinking sports clubs chose us to produce ties for match days and social events with this at least partially in mind. In fact, every order received by Keltic Ties comes with a certificate to show how many plastic bottles you’ve helped to recycle.
Here’s what each team respectively had to say once the job was completed and the new club ties in their hands;
Rugeley Rugby Club Local Rugby Club – – Midlands 4 West (North) had a tie for their club designed for players to wear to matches. Martin de Ridder the clubs honorary secretary said “great service and a nice design. I would highly recommend, we are planning to buy another set of ties from you soon” –Martin DeRidder.
And here’s what the Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club said about their amazing new ties;
“Everything is going great with the ties, the club really like them! They are proving immensely popular and are being bought at a fast rate! They’re mainly used for socials however some of our members wear them to work as well”

The secret to reducing plasticEvery Eco Tie prevents an average of 2 plastic bottles from polluting our oceans and local landscapes. We avoid using the option of crude oil to make our polyester yarn. This not only sidesteps the need to use fossil fuels, but also eliminates the unpleasant chemical processing of oil that is normally to make polyester yarn that has not been created from recycled materials.
Each year, we weave tens of thousands of golf club ties, rugby club ties, football club ties, and cricket club ties, and have up to now prevented over half a million plastic bottles from polluting the environment. By turning them instead into something people can wear, we believe this is as good a fate that can befall the much maligned plastic bottle.
